AMD has announced that the upcoming Windows 11 version 24H2 update will enhance the performance of its new Zen 5 CPUs, particularly the Ryzen 9000 series. Despite initial reviews showing the 9950X underperforming, AMD attributes this to a Windows bug and expects the 24H2 update to optimize AMD-specific branch prediction code. This update is projected to deliver a 13% performance increase in Far Cry 6 and a 7% boost in Cyberpunk 2077 for the 9950X.
Zen 4 and Zen 3 CPUs are also expected to see improvements, although exact figures remain undisclosed. The update, set to roll out soon, will be optional for all Windows 11 users. Initial tests had shown only minor gains between the new 9950X and its predecessor, the 7950X, with a 1% difference in gaming and a 3% gap in productivity.
AMD emphasizes that the Ryzen 9000 series still leads in performance for content creation, productivity, and AI applications. However, the 24H2 update may be crucial in fully realizing the potential of these new processors.
