When gamers are researching a game they’re interested in, they often turn to reviews – especially on Steam, where there are always plenty to read. However, Valve’s store has sometimes prioritized funny and witty comments over genuinely helpful ones. The company has decided to address this issue.
Valve released an update for the Steam client and website, with the key feature being an improved review display system. With adjustments to the algorithm, the service will now default to showing the most relevant and meaningful reviews under game titles, when available. That said, humorous reviews won’t be disappearing; Valve recognizes that many users enjoy them, so they won’t be removing these creative posts.
Users still have the option to revert to the previous system. To do this, simply go to the review section of any game and uncheck the “Use new helpfulness system” option in the “Display” menu.
Valve also shared an interesting statistic: over the years, gamers have written more than 140 million reviews on Steam.
