Microsoft’s Xbox research team intends to gather immediate input from game creators about issues with development tools, game development processes, and various features of the platform.
Microsoft is broadening its research initiative, inviting developers to share their experiences utilizing the company’s tools and explain why they might choose other platforms. The updated research will be available to all studio staff involved in creating and supporting games – from marketers to artists.
Microsoft aims to gather feedback from everyone involved in the development process, as making their jobs easier can enhance the gaming experience. The program is aimed not only at developers working with Xbox but also those who launch games on alternative platforms. Microsoft seeks to understand what difficulties developers face when releasing games on Xbox and what could improve its services. This initiative occurs during delays in the release of a number of games for Xbox.
As a reminder, Baldur’s Gate 3 was released on the platform several months later than on PS5 due to difficulties optimizing for the lower-end Xbox console. Capcom revealed that their collections of fighting games are scheduled to debut on Xbox only next year, along with the creators of Black Myth: Wukong are still working on a Xbox’s version.
Some developers openly declare difficulties with Microsoft’s procedures, which has attracted the focus of the company’s management. In particular, Phil Spencer personally contacted with Enotria’s developers to assist in addressing the difficulties encountered during the title’s evaluation.
Microsoft believes that broadening the research initiative will help identify and eliminate obstacles preventing the release of games on Xbox and avoid negative news about the platform’s technical difficulties.
P.S.: Maybe they shouldn’t have released such a stripped-down, underpowered console?
