South Korean AI chip companies Rebellions Inc and Sapeon Korea Inc have officially agreed to merge, as the privately held firms announced on Sunday. The companies first disclosed their merger discussions in June, marking this deal as another strategic move by South Korean firms to compete with global AI chip giants like Nvidia.
Sapeon’s key shareholders include South Korea’s largest telecom provider, SK Telecom, and SK Hynix, the world’s second-largest memory chipmaker.
In July, Rebellions secured a $15 million investment from Wa’ed Ventures, the venture capital arm of Saudi Aramco, bringing its total funding to over $225 million.
