The Raspberry Pi Foundation has unveiled a more budget-friendly version of the Raspberry Pi 5, now available with 2GB of RAM for a flat $50. This new variant is $10 less than the 4GB model and $30 cheaper than the 8GB version.
Despite the reduction in RAM, the 2GB Raspberry Pi 5 retains the core functionality of its higher-priced counterparts. It features the same quad-core Cortex A76 processor running at 2.4GHz, though it uses a slightly modified Broadcom BCM2712D0 chip. This new processor is functionally identical to the BCM2712C1 found in the more expensive models but lacks certain hardware components that were “permanently disabled” in the D0 version.
This design change helps reduce costs, which is particularly relevant given the rising prices of electronic components. For hobbyists and developers who need a low-cost computing solution for tinkering or small-scale projects, this price drop makes the Raspberry Pi 5 even more appealing.
The 2GB Raspberry Pi 5 is will be accessible through retailers shortly.
