Netherrealm Studios has announced the upcoming Khaos Reigns expansion for Mortal Kombat 1, set to launch on September 24, 2024. This expansion brings with it an array of exciting new content, including a fresh story mode and the introduction of Kombat Pack 2, as well as the revival of a beloved feature from the series’ past.
The four-minute trailer for Khaos Reigns reveals an all-new narrative arc where a more chaotic version of Havik emerges as the main villain from an alternate, even more disturbed timeline. Players will once again face off against a roster of iconic characters to thwart Havik’s sinister plans.
As expected from Netherrealm Studios, the expansion showcases the franchise’s signature high-resolution graphics and intense violence, promising Mortal Kombat 1 enthusiasts a thrilling new adventure.
Khaos Reigns also features Kombat Pack 2, which will expand the game’s roster with six additional characters. Three of these, including Sektor, Cyrax, and Noob Saibot, will be available upon release. The remaining three, featuring guest characters, will be unveiled at a later date. These guest fighters include Ghostface from the Scream series, Conan the Barbarian (portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger), and the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day (with Robert Patrick reprising his role). The expansion also includes the first Kombat Pack, featuring Quan-Chi, Ermac, Takeda, Omni-Man, Homelander, and Peacemaker.
In addition to these updates, Khaos Reigns will reintroduce a fan-favorite feature from the Mortal Kombat franchise: Animalities. This free update will allow players to execute Fatalities where their characters transform into various creatures—such as a hyena, pufferfish, and praying mantis—to deliver gruesome finishing moves.
