Meta CFO Susan Li recently shared that India has become the largest market globally for Meta AI usage, with 500 million users in the country now utilizing Meta AI on WhatsApp.
During Meta’s second quarter earnings report on Wednesday, the tech giant announced a nearly 50% increase in shares and a 22% rise in revenue for the quarter. India plays a central role in these significant achievements. At the earnings call, Susan Li emphasized, “We’re seeing particularly promising signs on WhatsApp in terms of retention and engagement, which has coincided with India becoming our largest market for Meta AI usage.”
Meta’s generative AI chatbot, Meta AI, was introduced at the Meta Connect event in 2023 and began rolling out in India in June 2024 across WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. In contrast, Meta AI has been available in markets such as Australia, Canada, and New Zealand since April 2024. That same month, Meta AI was upgraded with the new Llama 3 model.
Similar to other AI assistants, Meta AI is designed to help users with everyday tasks like writing emails, summarizing texts, and translating languages. The goal of Meta AI is to simplify tasks for users, acting as a versatile assistant that can answer questions and provide real-time information with support from Google and Microsoft’s Bing.
These developments underline the increasing importance of the Indian market in the global tech landscape and highlight the growing integration of AI into everyday digital interactions.
