Retailers in Germany have started lowering prices on the recently launched Ryzen 9 9900X processors due to weak demand. According to the French publication Hardware & Co, the Ryzen 9 9900X was initially expected to be priced at €539 in Germany, with slightly higher prices in France due to VAT. However, to the surprise of the French media, German retailers immediately began discounting the processor, with the current price sitting at €499, which is 7.4% below the recommended retail price.
As reported by VideoCardz, the German market for AMD processors is highly competitive. According to AMD’s official website, no other European country has as many official AMD retailers as Germany, leading many of these stores to operate with very slim margins.
ComputerBase reports that the expected price range for various Ryzen 9000 models in Germany should be between €309 and €709. However, retailers have already begun cutting prices on some chips, with discounts ranging from 1.4% to 7.4% off the official price. For instance, the newly released Ryzen 9 9900X is now available for €499 (around $446 excluding VAT).
It’s becoming clear that the Ryzen 9000 series hasn’t sparked significant interest among potential buyers, at least in Germany. Early reviews indicate that the performance gains, particularly in gaming, over the previous generation are minimal.
Looking at recent sales data from the large German retailer Mindfactory, it’s evident that only a few dozen units of the new processors have been sold so far. According to the retailer’s official website, only about 20 units of the Ryzen 5 9600X have been sold, over 50 units of the Ryzen 7 9700X, just over 10 units of the Ryzen 9 9900X, and slightly more than 60 units of the flagship Ryzen 9 9950X.
VideoCardz notes that, in the U.S., major retailers have yet to resort to drastic measures like price cuts for Ryzen 9000 processors. However, prices across the Ryzen 9 9000 lineup are likely to decrease in the coming months, especially with the anticipated release of the gaming-focused Ryzen 9000X3D processors.
