Google is set to unveil its fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat, with recent leaks revealing a range of upgrades. The new model will feature a high-resolution, “borderless” display, allowing the user interface to extend into what was previously a black bezel on older units.
Among the new features is “Dynamic Farsight,” which may enhance the existing Farsight functionality by providing a more versatile display of information such as weather, time, and room temperature. However, the specifics of how Dynamic Farsight will operate remain unclear.
Additional updates include a customizable homescreen and “natural heating and cooling” features. Details on these improvements are sparse, but they suggest a more tailored user experience.
The new thermostat will come with an oval trim plate, a rear steel plate, and a second-generation Nest Temperature Sensor. Unlike its predecessor, which had basic integration with the Google Home app, the fourth-generation model will offer a full UI within the app for complete control and scheduling, eliminating the need to switch to the Nest app.
While there are no specific mentions of hardware improvements beyond the display, users hope for better internal components, as the third-generation model was known for Wi-Fi connectivity issues. The fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat is expected to be priced at $279, with the new Nest Temperature Sensors priced at $39 each or three for $99. Official details may be revealed at Google’s hardware event on August 13th.
